Offline Maps
Your route keeps drawing where the signal stops.
Export map tiles for a region on iPhone (sourced from Apple Maps), sync them to the watch over the local device link, and the map widget keeps drawing even where there is no signal at all.
The watch renders tiles itself and auto-falls-back to a bundled set whenever the paired phone is out of reach. Use a map as a screen background, position-only, or with your full route trail picked out in the volt signal accent.
A “Map orientation” setting turns every workout map course-up, so your direction of travel points up and the position dot becomes a heading arrow, on the online map and the offline renderer alike. The heading is smoothed so the map never spins while you stand still, panning freezes the rotation until you recenter, and a compass button on the watch’s expanded map flips the mode for the current session. Regions can be renamed on the iPhone, and the names ride along to the watch.
On the iPhone’s Maps tab, pan and zoom to frame the region you need, pick minimum and maximum zoom, and read the tile count and size before committing.
Export runs with live progress, and the finished bundle transfers to the watch over the device link, with visible delivery status, resend, and retry.
On the watch, the tiles render in Runara’s own map engine: pan, zoom with the Digital Crown, recenter, with your position and trail drawn on top.
When the network path drops mid-workout, the map background and widget fall back to your offline tiles automatically, or flip the manual offline switch and never touch the network at all.
Do offline regions cost extra or need a subscription?
No. Exporting regions is part of the app, no per-region purchases, no Pro tier, no account. The tiles come from Apple Maps and live on your devices.
How large can a region be?
You decide the trade yourself: the export screen shows tile count and estimated size for your framed region and zoom range before you commit, so a whole valley at moderate zoom or a resort at full detail are both explicit choices, not surprises.
Does the map work with the iPhone left at home?
Yes, that is the point: once synced, the tiles live on the watch and the watch renders them itself. No phone nearby, no signal, airplane mode, the map keeps drawing.
