Effortless basics, rings and awards, and since iOS 26 a genuinely capable workout builder with pace, heart-rate, cadence, and power targets per step. Race Route races your own repeated courses, and Pacer chases a time goal. It is free with the watch and the right choice for many.

What Runara adds

Can the built-in Workout app follow a GPX route?

No. As of watchOS 26 there is no way to import a GPX file into Apple’s Workout or Maps apps for course following, and no native GPX export either. That gap is precisely what Runara’s routes feature fills: open a GPX on the iPhone and the watch follows it, offline included.

Do I have to stop using the Workout app?

No. Runara writes the same standard workouts into Apple Health that Apple’s app does, rings close, trends continue, history stays in one place. Use Runara for the sessions that need routes, custom screens, or CTL/ATL/TSB, and the built-in app whenever you prefer it.

Doesn’t Apple already show training load?

It shows a feature named Training Load, a comparison of your last 7 days of effort against your last 28. Runara computes the classic Banister model instead: separate 42-day fitness and 7-day fatigue curves and a signed form number (TSB), with a readiness verdict and recovery projection, the framework structured training plans are built on.

Can I customise workout screens without a third-party app?

Partly. Apple’s Workout Views let you choose which metrics appear and reorder the views, within fixed templates. Runara starts where that ends: seven layout templates, twenty-six widgets with variants, map and zone-band backgrounds, and per-slot details like a different speed unit per slot.
