How Runara tracks a treadmill run

There is no GPS indoors, so distance and pace come from the watch’s motion sensors, the same indoor-running estimate Apple Health uses. That estimate is honest but not gospel: it is derived from arm swing and stride, so it can disagree with the treadmill’s own display, especially at unfamiliar inclines or with a hand resting on the rail.

What the watch measures directly is exact: heart rate against your five zones, cadence in steps per minute, elapsed time, and energy. That is why treadmill screens in Runara lean on effort and rhythm rather than the belt’s speed reading, and why heart-rate-anchored zones make indoor pacing work even when distance is an estimate.

Audio cues speak the boundaries, “Work, 400 metres”, generated on the device in English or German, with an optional Silent-Mode override for loud gyms. The plan-progress widget can take over a whole slot and add live pace and zone rows as the slot grows.

Why does the watch distance differ from the treadmill display?

Because they measure different things. The treadmill counts belt revolutions; the watch estimates distance from your arm swing and stride, the standard indoor method on Apple Watch. Does the Apple Watch use GPS on a treadmill?
