A private Apple Watch workout app with no account
Short answer
Most popular workout apps need an account and sync your runs to their cloud: Strava, Runna, Nike Run Club and Garmin all do. Runara and WorkOutDoors work without an account of their own. Runara keeps everything on your iPhone and Apple Watch, writes workouts to Apple Health, and its App Store privacy label reads “Data Not Collected”.
Which apps need an account
Strava cannot be used without a Strava account, and every activity syncs to its cloud. Runna is an account-based coaching service that syncs to the cloud. Nike Run Club asks you to become a Nike Member. A Garmin watch needs a Garmin Connect account to set up and sync. Apple’s own apps need the Apple Account your devices already use, with Health data kept on device or in end-to-end encrypted iCloud.
How Runara keeps data local
Runara has no sign-up, no login and no server holding your workouts. Screens, routes and map regions travel from iPhone to watch over the direct device link. Finished workouts go into Apple Health, which you control. There are no analytics SDKs, ads or third-party trackers in the app.
If you want to share a run, export it: a GPX track, a flyover video, or through Apple Health to any app you choose to connect. Sharing is something you do, not something the app does for you.
Can I still get my workouts onto Strava?
Yes, if you want to. Every workout exports as a standard GPX file with elevation and timestamps, which Strava accepts as an upload. You decide, workout by workout.
Strava and Runara on Apple Watch →What happens to my data if I change phones?
Your workouts live in Apple Health, so they move with your Health data when you restore or migrate your iPhone. Runara itself holds no copy on a server.
Does this website track me?
Only if you accept analytics in the cookie banner; otherwise nothing is loaded. The app is separate and contains no analytics at all.
