Runara vs Strava
These are different tools. Strava is a community with tracking attached; Runara is a tracking instrument with no community at all. The honest comparison is about which job you are hiring for.
The table focuses on the tracking side, what happens on your wrist and where your data lives. Strava’s social layer, segments, kudos, clubs, is its real product, and Runara does not attempt it.
What Strava is
The place athletes share: segments and leaderboards, kudos, clubs, and a feed your friends actually read. Since early 2026 subscribers can also follow saved routes on the Apple Watch. The catch: an account and cloud sync are mandatory, and most training features, routes, zone analysis, Fitness & Freshness, sit behind the subscription (€10.99/month or €69.99/year as of July 2026).
What Runara is
A watch-first tracker that keeps everything on your devices: composable screens, GPX routes with offline maps and off-route alerts, a ghost pacer, and CTL/ATL/TSB training load, all included, no account, no cloud. Any workout exports as a GPX file, so nothing you record is ever locked in.

Is Runara a Strava alternative?
Only for the tracking half. If Strava is your community, keep it, many Runara users record privately and upload the occasional GPX export to share. If what you actually pay Strava for is routes, zones, and fitness curves, Runara covers that half without the subscription or the account.
Do I need a Strava subscription to follow routes on the Apple Watch?
On Strava, yes, watch route following launched in January 2026 as a subscriber feature. In Runara, route following, waypoints, off-route alerts, and offline maps ship with the app for every user.
Can I still get my Runara workouts onto Strava?
Yes, deliberately so: every workout exports as a standard GPX file with elevation and timestamps, which Strava accepts as an upload. Your data is yours; where you share it stays your choice, workout by workout.
What data does each app keep about me?
Strava keeps your activities on its servers, that is inherent to a social platform. Runara keeps nothing anywhere: workouts go to Apple Health on your devices, settings stay on the phone, and there is no server, no analytics SDK, and no account to tie anything to.
Track privately. Share deliberately.
Runara records the workout; Apple Health keeps it; a GPX export shares it when you say so. No subscription meter running.
